In Celebration of Marie Singley, longtime resident of Dover, Delaware, who passed away peacefully February 14, 2012 at the age of 82.

Born and raised in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, to the late William Murphy and Marie Nugent Murphy, St. Helena’s Parish.

She moved to Dover in 1970.  She worked and retired from Capital School District, where she worked for 20 years as a secretary in the District Office.

Marie was an active member of Holy Cross Parish for many years, where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteer at the Adoration Chapel. She was also a volunteer for many years at Delaware Hospice, Blood Bank, and Kent General Hospital.  Marie was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed other hand crafts like needlework, knitting, and basket weaving.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Murphy.

She is survived by her children; Carol Heckman of Annapolis Maryland and her husband Peter; Mark Singley of New York, New York; and Nancy Singley of Glen Burnie, Maryland.  Her two grandchildren,  Andrew and John Heckman; her brothers, Jack Murphy and his wife Gerry, of Norristown, Pennsylvania; and Frank Murphy and his wife Ann, of Winfield, Illinois; and sister-in-law. Barbara Murphy of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

A Mass of Christin Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 631 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901. Friends were called Friday evening at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover.
